![]() The randomness of some of the dice themselves may have decreased, but because they're biased in different ways picking from among them with no knowledge or concern for how they roll restores much of what was lost, if not more than what was lost. If I'm DMing, I deal with this by using a much larger pool of dice and picking from it randomly. Both tend to be more internally consistent and roll more randomly. If I'm playing in a game I'll usually use dice that are either clear with no large bubbles or that are of a single color. I tend to take one of two different approaches to avoid even the reduction of randomness created by plastic aggregate dice. With a roll-down, they're going to be more likely to be either one or the other. Where a normal d20 might be more likely to land in one section of the die than another, the distribution of numbers in that section will be a mix of high and low. This decrease in randomness is exacerbated by having all the high numbers on one side and low numbers on the other. Like other dice of the same make-up, they'll have pockets and areas of varying densities that make them a bit more likely to land on some sides than others. Most roll-down d20s are made of multi-colored plastic aggregate that tends to leave them uneven on the inside. How do I confront him about it? What should I do? Do I kick him out? Do I tell the others? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I didn't mention it to any of my players yet, including him, but I am at a loss. When he took a bathroom break at the end of the game, I took a look at his dice, and saw that one of his d20s has 2 20s and no 1s. I kinda srugged it off, and assumed I had just been mistaken, but as the session went on, I noticed that he had 2 d20s that we're the same color. ![]() I asked if I could see his dice, and he got kinda defensive, but he ended up giving it to me, and it was completely normal. The camera shot through layers of oil-based images on pieces of glass, allowing for more sophisticated manipulation of the images than ever before. The film was Disney’s attempt to prove that animation was a viable means of telling a complete narrative, so it was important to come up with something dazzling. Audiences were used to watching cartoons as five-minute preludes to a main feature, not as the feature itself. Snow White was the first such picture, after all. Walt Disney commissioned the camera’s creation for the film as he felt it was necessary to ramp up the imaginative nature of animation if people were expected to sit through a feature-length cartoon. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was the first film to employ the use of a multiplane camera. The setup can also make the background and foreground move in opposite directions, creating a spinning effect. Though not truly stereoscopic, the result creates something that appears three-dimensional. The process involves moving a number of pieces of artwork past the camera at various speeds and at various distances from one another. Walt Disney’s team tackled this problem by inventing the multiplane camera, a device capable of shooting several images at once to render a complete animation. In reality, walking closer through a farmland doesn’t amplify the size of the moon-it should always be the same size in a night sky. As Walt Disney explained in a 1957 recording, with traditional animation practices, if the camera zooms in on a picture of a farm at night, the moon gets bigger. Instead of the viewer’s perspective honing in naturally, everything would blow up. Scenery also fell victim to unrealistic point of views if the camera zoomed in or out on a subject. This tactic rendered the character wonderfully, but presented challenges in creating lifelike backgrounds.Īs the overlaid character moved in and out of a physical space, the background perspective didn’t change naturally. The character was drawn on celluloid sheets and placed on top of background art, each frame of the character’s movement matched by a tiny shift of the backing scenery to give the impression of the character inhabiting the space. ![]() Early animation featured moving characters on static backgrounds. ![]() As part of UFs campus-wide licensing agreement, the. Note for new Pe-8 pilots - Since this plane's control surfaces are huge and rotate very slowly, they will have lots of inertia: after you release a keyboard button for rolling, the ailerons will keep deflecting for a second or two before stopping, which is unlike the controls of smaller aircraft where the control surfaces stop deflecting immediately as soon as you release the button. When engaged in a steep dive, the same phenomenon (compressing and wobbling) takes place, restricting it only to a level bombing role. ![]() It can take the pilot a certain time to regain control of the bomber. The bomber usually compresses and wobbles after doing sharp turns, which can be very lethal at low altitude. Combined with a short tail, this creates instability and causes the Pe-8 to wobble when changing directions. ![]() The wings being massive, the turn radius is large and the bomber's manoeuvrability is mediocre. This limits its top speed as well as its climb rate. The Pe-8 has poor flight characteristics: the plane is very heavy for its engines and thus is slow. For the pilot of the Pe-8, fly high and drop as much as you can on the targets, as a fighter trying to take out the Pe-8 set up your run so that in the event you lose control of your aircraft, it has a good chance of ramming the bomber causing it to crash as this aircraft has a good propensity to soak up bullets. Fleet vessels are not to discount this bomber as it has the means to destroy ships with its accurate bomb site, pending the pilot slowing the aircraft down enough to let the bombardier line up the target and release the necessary ordnance. Other payload options are useful for carpet bombing areas where clusters of lighter vehicles or fixed anti-aircraft targets may sit. It is easy to see why the Pe-8 would be a prime target to eliminate as if left unchecked, it could easily wipe out the enemy bases without flinching and move onto the next. Options can range between 2,000 and 5,000 kg bomb loads with as many as 40 x 50 kg or 100 kg bombs, or fewer but heavier bombs such as 6 x 500 kg bombs or a single massive 5,000 kg FAB-5000 bomb. These defensive weapons are critical to protecting the bomber against inbound enemy fighter especially because of the bomb payload which it can carry. Attacking this aircraft especially from the rear whether above, below or directly from the rear is a bad choice as, like with the BV 238, there are many defensive guns which can hit and hit hard. The huge bomber has a nose gunner, tail gunner, rear-facing dorsal turret and two rear-facing underwing gun pods. The Pe-8 though a large and tempting target, it is not without its merits. By 1944 all remaining Pe-8s were removed from service but were retrofitted for other jobs such as VIP transport and operations up into the arctic circle. As such an important aircraft to the Soviet people, it became a priority target for the German Luftwaffe pilots to go after. Other prime targets included the nighttime bombing of factories, German airfields and rail yards. Though impressive as it was, it was only produced in limited numbers and was reserved for special occasions called "morale raids" to encourage and raise the spirits of the Soviet population by hitting important German targets deep behind enemy lines to include bombing Berlin in mid-1941. This monster of a bomber was the only four-engine bomber produced by the Soviet Union during World War II. The Petlyakov Pe-8 was an early design Soviet heavy bomber which debuted in 1936. It was introduced in Update 1.53 "Firestorm". With a battle rating of 4.3 (AB/RB) and 5.3 (SB). The Pe-8 is a rank III Soviet heavy bomber ![]() ![]() ![]() See where this is going? That’s where there is an issue. Where this becomes a proper issue is, say, in two-, five- or eight-years’ time, your AGM is dead and you’re done with the box and want to change it up, and you put it on Marketplace or Gumtree, and some young bloke comes along with no idea, works out the battery has died and needs to put a new one in, goes and gets himself a lead-acid battery and puts it in the sealed box without a second thought because he can’t afford a you-beaut AGM jobby. See, the AGM batteries absorb most of the hydrogen and oxygen again and turn it back into water, so they’re reasonably well-sealed, yet they still have vents that will vent some gas. But I only run AGM batteries, so they’re fine… right? We worked out that one 12v battery with six cells in a ‘room’ 1.5ft x 1.5ft x 3ft (the size of the average sealed space case) needs to have the air completely replaced every 7.63 minutes for it to not become explosive. Yep, 4.1 per cent hydrogen mixed with air will go boom.įrom another perspective, we looked up the OHS/legal safety requirement for a battery storage/charging room. Where this gets really interesting is that to become explosive, hydrogen needs to be in a concentration with air of between just 4.1% and 75%. Each cell of a lead-acid battery will produce 0.42-litres of hydrogen gas for each and every Ah beyond the battery’s capacity.Ģ0Ah x 0.42-litres of hydrogen (per Ah per Cell) x 6 cells = 50.4 litres of H2 or hydrogen gas. So 100Ah needs 120Ah put into it to be ‘fully charged’. It’s generally granted that to fully charge a lead-acid battery, you need to put in about 20 per cent over the recommended Amp Hour (Ah) rating. ![]() There will need to be a bit of maths, but stick with me. You’d probably be surprised hell, I was when I did the research for you good folks. It doesn’t take a genius to realise that one tiny spark… and the whole thing will go BOOM!ĭoes anyone still remember the Hindenburg? Hydrogen gas at work… Photo: Universal History Archive Surely it can’t make that much hydrogen gas? All of a sudden you’re putting a bunch of 12-volt gear (charger, solar controller, Anderson plugs, ciggy sockets, etc.) in a sealed container that will fill up with hydrogen gas. Where this becomes a problem is when you go and buy a ‘sealed’ box or space-case. That’s why on the side of a lead-acid battery it says to store, use and charge in a ‘well-ventilated area’. So as soon as your charger goes over 14.1-volts (2.35-volts times six cells), it’s generating a hell of a lot of hydrogen gas. In our specific case, your 12-volt lead-acid battery has six cells. This occurs when your battery voltage goes above about 2.35-volts per cell. It’s actually hydrogen and oxygen (two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen – from water H20). Most folks probably realise that when you’re charging a lead-acid battery, it gives off hydrogen gas. Until of course, you open the lid! How exactly am I turning the battery box project into a bomb?! For the more scientifically minded, it’s essentially Schrodinger’s Box both a battery box and a bomb, at the same time. There’s only one problem: by using sealed boxes, you’re basically turning your neat DIY project into a bomb. I absolutely understand the concept behind them they’re portable, easy to plug-in, can be moved to the different accessories using them, and are a nice and easy DIY jobbie you can do at home. In a rather concerning trend I’ve noticed as of late, there are a lot of people building ‘battery boxes’. We really need to stop turning battery boxes into hydrogen bombs!
